LSTA Grant

The Hoopeston Public Library is one of 11 rural communities selected as partners for the the Western Illinois University Program, "Expanding the Entrepreneurial Role for Rural Libraries." WIU libraries, in cooperation with the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs, Alliance Library System and Western Illinois Entrepreneurial Center, recently received a Library Services and Technology Act grant project funded through the Illinois Office of the Secretary of State to administer the economic stimulus program.

This grant project will:

  • Provide pilot training programs to build the capacity of librarians and economic development professionals to build their capacity to respond more effectively to queries about entrepreneurship and community development.
  • Promote rural libraries as crusial access points for information needed to support effective public and private development decisions.
  • Enhance rural libraries roles as local publi spaces to hold meetings, educational training, and other activites related to community development and entrepreneurship.
